Welcome!
With over ten years of ministerial experience, Joe LaGuardia's passion is to bring people into a more intimate and passionate relationship with God through effective ministry, congregational leadership, preaching, teaching, and spiritual discernment.
Abide with Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. Grow in God's Word by discerning where God is at work in your life Share God's love to all through confident and ethical proclamation
Joe LaGuardia is associate pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, chaplain for Clairmont Oaks, Inc. retirement communities and history teacher at Victory Christian School. He is a native of New York although he spent most of his life in Florida. Joe received his Bachelor of Arts at Palm Beach Atlantic University in the fields of history and religion and a Master of Divinity degree at McAfee School of Theology, Mercer University. He is a doctoral candidate at McAfee, concentrating in the field of spiritual formation.
Much of Joe's scholarship has focused on biblical studies and the spiritual discipline of hospitality. His deepest conviction is to welcome people who are not normally welcomed, to celebrate diversity and ecumenism, and to provide a voice for the voiceless. This stems from his family heritage, which reaches back to the earliest Italian immigrants who found their way to America. His distant cousin (related according to legend), Fiorello LaGuardia, was mayor of New York in the 1930s and prided himself on representing the marginalized, including immigrants, labor, and the poor.
"In free America, big, rich, powerful, there should not be a hungry woman or child ... The greatness of a nation ...will not be measured by ...its canons--but by the cheerfulness and ring of its children's laughter." -Fiorello LaGuardia
Joe is also interested in spiritual formation. Spiritual formation is the foundation for one's spiritual growth and relationship to God. A Christian's goal is to be conformed to the likeness and image of Christ. This takes a commitment to practicing the classic Christian disciplines handed down to the Church from ancient Christian forefathers and foremothers, including prayer, meditation, hospitality, silence, worship, study, and spiritual direction. As co-founder of Advent Leadership Group, a consortium of ministers committed to helping churches, groups, businesses, and individuals discern where God is at work in their midst, Joe is committed to helping others sharpen their walk with the Lord.
